How can I access my email from another computer or when I'm traveling    Back

1. Make sure your Outlook Express is not open
2. In a browser enter www.ttlv.net/webmail in the address line (not in the search bar)
3. Login with your full email address and password
4. Now you can send, receive, and delete emails.

Deleting emails from the server through webmail - When you are still logged in to webmail, to delete emails, do the following:

1. Check the box to the left of the email
2. Click on delete/undelete, which will put a line through the email
3. Then click on Purge deleted emails to remove the emails 
4. Once you are done with the webmail log off correctly by doing the following:

VERY IMPORTANT - YOU MUST LOGOFF - On the left hand side of this screen you'll see a Logoff button. Make sure you click on that to log off the webmail. If you don't log off properly, you will get an error if you try to open up another email software program such as Outlook Express. If you get that error, you will need to wait one hour for your email to reset before you will be able to open your email.

What is an accelerator and how can I get it?    Back

Before we can describe the accelerator, we need to define the word cache (pronounced cash). Cache is a fast storage buffer in the central processing unit of your computer. It can also be called cache memory. The first time you visit a website, the page will open a little slower because all the text and pictures are being copied over into the buffer (your cache). After that, when you go to that same website, it will come up faster because all the files are already stored in your buffer (your cache). Instead of having to download all the pictures and text from the site, your computer just accesses the website from your cache - making it pop up on your screen faster than it did the first time you opened it.

Typically, companies that offer a “5 times faster web accelerator” are using a computer called a proxy server to cache (buffer) website files for you. So, when their proxy server caches the websites you visit, they come up faster for you. Faster site openings is the positive side to that type of service. The negative side is that when you let another company cache your files for you, you never know if you are looking at a current website or an old outdated copy of that website. If anything has changed on the website since the last time it was cached, you won’t see the new information. You’ll be looking at an old copy of the website.

Simple rule of thumb is to never let another company control something of yours that you can control yourself -- at no cost to you.

That’s right, you have web accelerator capabilities right on your own computer -- capabilities that you are in control of at no cost to you! There are many companies that make a big deal out of this service in their advertising campaigns, making people believe it’s something they need to pay extra to have. What’s really sad is when a company will offer to give you the accelerator free for the first year, and then they want to charge you $60 a year thereafter. You probably didn’t know that you have a built in accelerator right on your own computer, did you? Now we’re going to explain how to use it -- and it won’t cost you a penny. Here’s what you do…

As a final note, every once in a while, you’ll still want to clean out your cache (your temporary internet files). You’ll find instructions on this at the top of this page. Obviously, when you do that, your buffer will start from scratch again and your files will load slower the first time you go to a website. But if you never clean out your cache, that can also slow your system down. Even the large companies with the proxy servers have to clean their cache once in awhile. The problem with that, as we mentioned earlier, is that you never know when they’re cleaning their cache, so you never know when you’re looking at an old file. With YOU in control of your own accelerator, YOU always know what’s happening with your computer because YOU are in control! And why should you pay for an accelerator service that is already on your computer?

Having trouble replying to messages when using ttlv webmail?    Back

When using our ttlv webmail, here's a hint you'll want to be sure to remember. If the window does not open for you to reply to emails, try turning off your pop up blocker before attempting to write or reply to a message. It seems some pop up blocker programs consider any window - even new messages or replies - as pop ups. If this is the case for you, just disable your pop up blocker while in the webmail. That way you'll be able to go about your email uninterrupted.

Another short cut if you don't want to turn off your pop up blocker is to hold down the control key before hitting any other key in the webmail. By holding down the Ctrl key, you can override your pop up blocker from stopping the webmail to function properly.

Before You Call The Office    Back

Before you call for help, please be sure your computer is turned on and you are in front of it with a phone.

Yes we're open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we're more than happy to help you out. But here's something that can speed up the process with whatever situation you may have.

If you're having a hard time logging on to the internet, or if you're having a hard time accessing your emails, or you're running into disconnects or any other problems, before calling the office, do a proper shutdown of your computer and restart it.

The proper way to do a shutdown is to click on Start, then Shut Down, then Turn Off your computer. Leave it off for a minute or two and then turn it back on and try to connect to the internet. This normally takes care of 95% of the problems most people have. If the problem persists after you restart your computer, call us so we can assist you.

VERY IMPORTANT! If you're getting a particular error message, either leave the error on your screen or make sure you write down the error message before you call so we can better assist you in solving your problem.

Spyware - what is it and how can I stop it?     Back

A person can get spyware from downloading files or just surfing the internet. These are files that are put on to your computer without your permission. These files can watch where you're surfing, bog down your system, make changes to your computer without your knowledge, and even corrupt files. We suggest downloading two (free) software packages that are designed to get rid of spyware.

After you download and install these software packages, we suggest running them at least once a month to keep your system clean. It's what is known as keeping the bad guys out of your computer.

Computer Viruses - What's a good way to prevent them?    Back

One of the best ways to prevent a computer virus is to install an antivirus software package onto your computer. Two of the best known inexpensive are Mcafee and Norton/Symantec. After installing your antivirus software, another helpful way to prevent getting viruses is to refrain from opening emails with attachments. Getting errors when receiving emails or getting the same email over and over     Back

If you have emails that keep repeating over and over, you probably have a corrupted email on the server that Outlook Express does not know how to read. To fix this, you need to go to the Webmail and delete as many emails off the server as you can. To delete emails off the server, refer to Webmail.

Changing Your Layout     Back

In the Layout you can modify your screen display to whatever you prefer. You can learn what each screen looks like by checking and un-checking the boxes.

5. Remove the check mark in the box that says hang up after sending and receiving.

I Don't Have Outlook Express On My Computer... How Do I Get It?     Back

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/ie and download the latest version of Internet Explorer for the version of Windows you're running on your computer.  Follow the step by step instructions. (When you download Internet Explorer, it will automatically put Outlook Express on your computer.) When the download is completed, Outlook Express will be loaded onto your computer. There is no cost to download this file.

Note: If you have a very old version of Windows and you haven't done a Windows update in a long time, you may need to do several updates to bring your computer up to date.

Preventing Email Viruses     Back

1. Open Outlook Express.
2. Click on View.
3. Click on Layout.
4. Click on Customize Toolbar.
5. On the left hand side, under Available Toolbar Buttons, scroll down until you see the Preview icon.
6. Highlight Preview by clicking on it once and then click on Add so Preview moves to the right side.
7. Finally, click on Close.

When the Preview is on, you can read the content of your email. When the Preview is off, you don’t see the content of your email. When a virus comes in through an email, it relies on your Preview being on so it can infect your computer, so here is what you can do.

Keep your Preview off as much as possible. If an email comes in with an attachment, delete it. If an email comes in that you want to read, just turn your Preview on by clicking on the Preview button and you'll be able to view the message. By using your Preview button this way, viruses could be sent to you all day and they wouldn’t affect your computer. It’s just a smart way of beating the idiot who doesn’t have anything better to do with his time than to create vicious viruses and send them as emails.

To protect your computer, you may also want to invest in an anti-virus software package such as Norton, Symantec or McAfee. These are available at any computer store.

Setting Up An Email Account If You Are An Existing TechnoTwist Client.     Back

1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on Tools
3. Click on Accounts
4. Click on the Mail tab
5. Click on Add
6. Click on Mail
7. Type in the name that you want people to see when you send them an email - then click next
8. Enter your full email address - Example - johndoe@ttlv.net - then click next
9. Load in the following in your Incoming Mail -  mail.ttlv.net
10. Load in the following in your Outgoing SMTP -  mail.ttlv.net - then click next
11. Your user name will show up in the Account Name. Make sure you add @ttlv.net to the end of your user name. (In other words, the Account Name on this page should be your full email address.)
12. Load in your Password - then click on Remember Password, if you like - then click next
13. Click Finish and you'll be back at the Internet Accounts window.
14. Click on Properties at the right
15. Click on the Servers tab at the top
16. The last line at the bottom it says My server requires authentication - make sure that box is checked
17. Click apply
18. Click OK
19. Close the Internet Accounts window and close out of Outlook Express
20. Properly restart your computer to save your settings

IMPORTANT! If you are setting up a new email account on your computer and we don't have that email name set up on our end, please be sure to CALL THE OFFICE and give us the new information. If we do not setup the account at the office, your new email will not work! If you are just setting up an existing account, there is no need to call the office.

Setting Up An Email Account If You Are A Hosting Client NOT using TechnoTwist Service.     Back

1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on Tools

7. Type in the name that you want people to see when you send them an email - then click next

Changing Your Home Page     Back

1. Open Internet Explorer
2. Click on Tools
3. Click on Internet Options
4. Under the General tab you will see Address... Fill in whatever address you would like as your first page (such as http://www.myway.com).  Make sure you include http://www.

Cleaning Your "Cache" (pronounced cash)     Back

You will need to be in Internet Options to "Clean your Cache". There are a couple of ways to access Internet Options. One way is to open Internet Explorer (you may work offline if you wish). Click on Tools. Click on Internet Options. A second way to access Internet Options is to go to your Control Panel and click on Internet Options.

Once you have opened up Internet Options, just follow these simply instructions. Be sure you are in the General tab. Look for the "Temporary Internet Files" section. Click on the button entitled "Delete Files". Another box will pop up with a small white box in it that reads "Delete all offline content". Put a check mark in that box and click OK.

An hourglass will appear while your temporary internet files are being deleted. If you have never cleaned your cache, this hourglass may stay on your screen for quite a while - and that’s OK. Once the hourglass disappears, go to the History section. You may change the days to keep pages in history by simply hitting the up arrow to increase the days or the down arrow to decrease the number of days. Click on the "Clear History" button. A box will pop up that reads, "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history of visited Web sites?" Just click on Yes. An hourglass will again appear while your history is being cleared. It normally does not take as long to delete your history as it does deleting your temporary internet files. 

If you have a button that says delete cookies, you'll want to click on that also. Then simply click OK at the bottom and you’re finished.

If you follow this procedure and "Clean your Cache" on a regular basis, your computer will usually run more effectively.

After this is done you will be given the option to save your password.
